Betsy Ann, A Domestic Black Bear was confiscated and killed as a result of a botched raid by the Pa Game commission and The Butler county humane society on May 14, 2002. The owners home was entered and searched without warrant or probable cause. The bear, who was legally purchased at an auction in Ohio, had USDA paper's which were also seized. On May 14, 2002 , in the middle of this ridiculous circus launched by the Butler County Humane Society, the bear was removed from her cage by Lorraine Sicilia, only to show it off in front of the cameras.
Lorraine Sicila went as far as to go into the living room of the house she had just illegally entered and put on lipstick and combed her hair before taking the bear and stepping out in front of the cameras Lorraine Sicila purposely called the press with a story that there were skulls in the basement of this woman's trailer. This was done in order to bait the TV stations into showing up at the scene to cover her disgusting, self centered grasp at her 15 minutes of fame. The facts were that one deer skull was found in the basement. The owner's son had found this skull in the woods years ago and had brought it home as many children would do. There was no reason for the fabrication of this skull story, other than the fact that it got the news media to the location so the Lorraine could do her dance in front of the television cameras. (Probably in hopes of furthering her career somewhere down the line) |

| After this disgusting display of "I couldn't care less about this damn bear, make sure I look good on TV" was over, the bear was then handed to the Pa Game officer who claims to have been bitten by the tame, de-clawed, defanged bear cub, that use to sleep in bed every night with the woman (who legally purchased the bear) that they took it from... Regis Senko (supervisor of Franklin office game commission) was informed of the bite and ordered the execution of this innocent bear cub, despite the fact that there has NOT been any confirmed case of rabies in black bears, dating back to the early 1900's.. The cub could have been quarantined like any other warm blooded mammal. All the animals in question had been in the home for longer than the usual required length of time for normal quarantine. However, if there was a threat of rabies, why did the game officer allow Lorraine Sicilia to parade the bear in front of the news media?
Last, but not least, the question remains, How is it possible that this bear cub was so dangerous that it had to be put down, but yet, lived almost it's entire life with the woman who the game commission confiscated it from, but yet, did not last one night in the hands of the game commission???? The reckless actions of the officers and the vindictive and uneducated decision of the supervisor caused the needless death of the innocent pet of an innocent women. This woman got a very bad bum wrap on this. This woman is a very kind and caring person. She loves animals and all she ever wanted to do was help injured or homeless animals. She took very good care of all her animals, in spite of what Game commission or Animal Rescue league claims. This incident could happen to any innocent person and animal. |
